EDGAR + OMAR // GAY PROPOSAL DEEP ELLUM

EDGAR + OMAR // GAY PROPOSAL DEEP ELLUM

GUESS WHAT! I have been holding on to a secret for a month and I can finally share it. Two of my best guys got engaged and I was there to capture it. Meet Omar and Edgar. These two have the biggest hearts and I am lucky to call them my friends and my neighbors. They have been there since the beginning of the Promote Love Movement…in fact, Omar built our website with his bare hands. Their love and generosity never go unnoticed.

When Omar came to me and told me he picked a date and got the ring…I immediately went into planning mode. We would sneak around doing our best to keep Edgar out of the loop. After hearing some of his plans I asked him what their song was. He said it was “Danny’s Song” by Loggins & Messina. My talented buddy Robby Swiech learned the song in a night and completely dominated. I think my favorite part was during one of the photos I say “hey Omar, CATCH” and threw the ring box at him. You can see Edgar’s expression in the photos. Priceless. It was such a romantic night and I am so happy I was there for all of it! Ok enough from me… I know you’re ready for a quick Q&A about the whole story with the guys. So here we go…

1. How long have you two been together?

We met six years ago.

2. Edgar, did you have any idea that it was happening? When did it first click?

First of all I want to thank everyone who participated in the immaculate execution of the BEST night of my life. I continue to be SPEECHLESS and don’t have the words to describe such an unforgettable moment that I will cherish for the rest of my life but I will do my best to describe the many feelings, emotion and love I felt by everyone.

When Omar and I first started dating almost 6 years ago, we both decided every Friday will be date night regardless of our busy schedules. A time to reflect on us, work on us and celebrate our love for each other.

Friday 4/14/17 I walked into our loft to notice several items missing. He explained to me Steph was using them for a photoshoot. I thought nothing of it and proceeded to get ready for our date night. As I got ready I noticed more random things missing from the loft but again thought nothing of it.  Once we got dressed and ready to go I was ready to call an Uber to pick us up but Omar told me we actually had dinner reservations at a very nice restaurant in Deep Ellum and we could walk there.  To be honest I was not happy about having to walk but hey, it was our night and if he wanted to walk I was going to walk with him.  As we got close to Cold Beer Company I noticed Steph waiting on someone.  I thought nothing of it and continued walking. At some point she asked if she could snap a few pictures of us. It was date night, we looked cute and who doesn’t want their picture taken by freaking Steph Grant?! Of course we said yes. We finally reached the corner of Brake and Clutch warehouse and I noticed a musician.  Steph was taking his picture and I assumed it was the photoshoot Omar was talking about.  We stood there for a sec and Steph offered Omar and me some champagne. Again, I love me some bubbly and Steph and I drink bubbly all the time so I thought nothing of it.  When she handed us the champagne, the musician began to play a song that Omar has played for me since the day we met. It was our song.  Clueless, I still had no idea what was going on. I honestly thought it was a coincidence.

Once the song was over Steph left to continue “her photo shoot” inside the warehouse.  We began to walk over to “the restaurant.”  While we walked Omar stopped me, looked at me and out of nowhere Steph throws a box to Omar. This is the moment when I realized what was happening.  I WAS IN SHOCK! I could not believe it. The love of my life was asking me to marry him. So many feelings, so much love, and so many emotions.  I was truly speechless. A dream come true!

My amazing fiancé took my hand and asked me to walk with him inside the warehouse. To my surprise, there was a beautiful table setting with some of the most important people in my life!!!! Friends and family that live across the country were there to celebrate with us.  I have never felt so much love from so many people. I am truly blessed and lucky to have such amazing group of friends and family.

I can’t help but cry thinking of everything he did to make my day so special surrounded by people that love us. This is only the beginning to a beautiful story and I cannot wait to continue making memories with you love! You are everything to me and I am so lucky to have you in my life. You are THE ABSOLUTE MOST! Love you FOREVER.

3. Omar, any tips for pulling off a proposal?

After 6 years with Edgar sometimes I look back on how things used to be [before Edgar]. I was religious and wanted nothing more than to be straight and model my life like the prophets I read about. I was sure that the only acceptable life for me was a wife and kids and Friday prayers at the mosque. I am thankful that the life I wanted when I was younger is not only impossible but undesired. Loving Edgar is the only thing I know for sure. The humble peace that followed introduced the tip that I used for my proposal; to be inspired by your love and not anything else.

Our Song is “Danny’s Song” by Loggins and Messina … a song that I sang to Edgar and he eventually sang back to me long before he ever heard the original by Loggins. I love this song because it taps into the most pure feeling that I have ever known — that our life ain’t going to be perfect but all I need is him. and that’s enough.

4. What do you guys think is key to a long lasting, healthy relationship?

Here is a screenshot of some simple rules that I have accumulated over the years — probably with Bob Marley playing in the background. 😉

• accept his individual ways.

• adapt when necessary.

• Ferrero Rocher®

• let him be and defend it to everyone.

• be proud. always.

• stay fit damnit!

• love who he loves.

• dream together.

• travel.

• keep the pictures safe.

• disagree but always value peace.

• go to sleep happy.

• just tell him whats up.

• have boundaries.

• show him.

• commit: when you can’t imagine life without him.

    Edgar~

No words can describe my happiness for you and your life partner. Even though you never confided in me when we were colleague’s at Pilgrim’s Pride–but I knew anyway. I love that you both have started a new chapter your life.

P.S. Don’t invite me to the wedding and see what happens!! Can’t wait to meet him.

I’ve always adored you, my friend.
