CASSIE & KAYLA // VIRGIN ISLANDS LESBIAN WEDDING
This weekend we will celebrate 1 year of MARRIAGE EQUALITY! That day was such a huge one for me, my friends, my clients and the entire LGBTQ community. Many of you have seen the love stories of my LGBTQ clients. You’ve gotten a glimpse into the love in their smiles and the support that surrounds them. My hope is that by me sharing these images and stories you will be overwhelmed with happiness for these couples and celebrate with us. It seems so simple – being able to marry the person we love. That was not an option for so long. I am so happy with the progress we have made! It makes me watch to have a reunion with every couple I have photographed and have one giant shindig.
Exactly a year ago I was in Hawaii on the Big Island reading in a hammock when I heard the marriage equality news. I cried. Then I jumped into the ocean. Today I am celebrating by showing you the incredible love story of Cassie and Kayla. Just in case you didn’t catch their engagement session you’ll want to check out the cuteness. The internet fell in love with Cassie and Kayla immediately. They were featured in Glamour Magazine, How She Asked, The Way We Met and the Huffington Post.
Here’s the thing. When a wedding adventure involves 8 crazy days in St. Thomas with the raddest group of humans in a beach house you can understand why this is thee longest blog post of all times. If you were following along on my Snapchat then you caught some behind the scenes action like the brides and I almost driving off of a cliff in the middle of the night and Kayla dangling from the back of the SUV in a white lace romper. It’s hard not to want to surround yourself with these girls and their crew on a regular basis. I met them a little over a year ago at a popsicle joint here in Dallas and we’ve been best buds since (thanks Miranda!). They are driven and successful entrepreneurs and musicians, they make their friends top priority, they’re dance machines and it would be a mistake not to mention that they know how to throw parties that will be talked about for decades to come. 65 people came out to St. Thomas for their wedding and we lived it up every second (just check out the behind the scenes video below). We spent our days on our private beach, going on catamaran adventures, snorkeling, kayaking, catching lobsters and dominating SUP yoga. The smiles were constant and so were the Painkillers;) I woke up pretty early every morning to have coffee on the beach. I sat there and soaked it all in. I felt like my life was a movie. Grab a cocktail, sit back and check it….HAPPY FRIDAY!
